Amputee Rider in The Making - Episode 5

Hello Boys and Girls.

Time for another episode of, Amputee Rider in The Making.

As the title suggest, on the 15th of July 2007, i lost my virginity the very first time for having my first official crash

To begin with, when i arrived in Sepang, i realized that my tube was damaged and my rear tire is losing pressure.

Didn't notice that the day before, then again, i had it on double stand. (Lesson learnt ). And to make matters worst, i didn't come prepare with extra tubes or other shtuff (Lesson learnt, again )

My mechanic took a look and we decided to see how much we are loosing per lap, so we put in over 30psi, i went out, came back in and measured the pressure. Close to 20psi per lap!.

Notice the foot pump.

What else to do, we're already here, lets give it a go!

I decided to make full use of the track time. so, we pumped out some extra 5psi and the plan was, i go out for two laps, then come back in for refill....something like Formula One!

Coming back into the pit for air

Going back out again

Another contributing factor, i was pushing a bit hard on that day (however, i'm still the slowest one around). by far the hardest since my first outing.
After about five rotation, on the lap that i was suppose to come in for air, the 'mishap' happened at T11. i think i exited the turn too hot.

Eventhough its not clear, the picture above consists of my bike AND meself. Somehow my leg was stuck at the handlebar and the bike dragged itself together with me along the gravel

Then the medic team had to come because my leg was undone and i couldnt walk.

The Aftermath:

The bike

The boots

The suit

So that is how the Amputee Rider lost his virginity by having his first, official crash! I know the decision of riding with tire problem is utter lunacy, but i didnt wanna waste the chance of lapping the track.

Picture of the day

No regrets though cause i had a lot of fun!

Till the next episode, ride on!

Amputee Rider in The Making - Episode 4

Hey guys, just like the previous episodes, I'm just sharing

The 28th of June, the first trackday after a while.

I was late (due to the bike transporter ), but arrived safely nonetheless.
This was the day that I got a 'new image' (new stuff arrived :D )

Glove, anyone? lol

How about some spanking new kicks?

Suiting up!

At last, all suited up and ready to go!

Exiting the pit

Turn baby, turn!

Sparks! (Damn! there goes them new kicks :D )

Duck!

Posing after a hard day's work (Glamour seeker hahahaha :D )

Last but not least:

Thank you leg! You did well today!

Some pics are courtesy of Where/Kudinz/ColdFusionPower...Thanx guys!)

Well, as the title states, "Not too shabby"
Looking back, i guess its not too shabby....for a guy who:
1) had to re-learn how to ride with one leg
2) has no prior track experience (prior the accident)
3) seldom rides (seldom as in at most once a week)
4) gets his chance of taking corners only during trackday (no awana, no nothing)

Like i said, "Thank you leg! You did well today! " ;)

Amputee Rider in The Making - Episode 2

Maybe by now everyone's getting kinda tired with this whole amputee rider thingy, but I just wanted to share

After the first Episode, i got really de-motivated due to a lot of reason. was up to a point where i wanted to sell off all my biking gears.

However, bit by bit the passion for riding came back. April 15th 07, the second trackday proved that i still got the passion in me.

Arrived in Sepang a tad late, so was suiting up behind the pit:

Guess who decided to say hello! (He later overtook me after turn 3, distancing himself about a few inches away from my bike, just a few inches! RESPECT! )

Tie your helmet properly.

A few on track shots. (Thank you Abdullah)

Glamour seeker!

Had a little mishap at turn 9 whereby the special leg got numb and lost control. Was 'ambulanized' to the medic centre but nothing major. Ended my T-day session but couldn't be happier.

Thank you leg! You did well today!

So thats it for episode 2. Hope there's more episode to come in the future.

Amputee Rider in The Making - Episode 1

After my life-altering accident, I've been counting the days (literally) when i will be able to make my return on two wheels.

I've been coming to Trackdays, patiently waiting for the joy of riding in the Track.

Then Armand came and wooed the idea of in addition to riding on track, why not take up racing. not for the championship (although that would be nice) but for me, living my dream.

Thanks to Classicracing for providing the machine and gearing that made it possible for me, a left leg amputee to change gear.

The machine...

The gearing...

After nearly half of year waiting since my first Trackday attendance (and over one and a half year of waiting after the accident), the time finally came.....

21st January 2007...

The arrival

Good crowd turn up

Suit up

Revving the bike (thank you msportbike.com for the thread on "purpose of revving")

Testing. But bike had problem. The shifter came loose.

Thank you mechanic. Let me give you some shade from the blistering sun

Tested again. OK this time

On Track Baby!!!!

Try this expression. After six months of waiting!

Eventhough going to the track might not be a big deal for everyone else, it is a HUGE accomplishment for me!

I live by myself after the accident, being able to make my own dinner is something to be proud of. But being able to ride on Track? OMG, no word can explain it!

To conclude this Episode, let me leave you with what i think would be a good 'pic of the day'

End of Episode 1
