My first project was this:
An FZR1000, converted fully to an 03 R1.
However, the bike was to heavy for me to handle. So, rather than letting it sit at the house, and having to call for assistance everytime i wanted to ride it, i had to let her go.....
Plus, it was time for a new project.
As i was playing around with the idea of a next project, it suddenly hit me that i should try something different. I've had Inlines before but never a V-Twin.
So, that was the basis of the next project. A V-Twin bike.
Next came the idea of "can we take an ordinary bike, and make it something special".....with limited budget to spend.
Then came the procurement of the correct bike. So, i decided to go with one of this:
A decent bike. With a decent V-Twin engine.
Now.....can we turn this ordinary bike, into something special?
As this is a conversion, i was trying to think of a suitable bike to convert the Naza 650 into. Then i watched the WSBK 2002 DVD where Colin Edwards won:
The Honda RC-51 looks good.
So, off i went to see the master himself, Classicracing. After a lengthy discussion, he agreed that it can be done. Thank God.
Next is to find a skin for the conversion. So I went and got the RC51 from Sharkskinz:
Since the Naza 650 came with a single exhaust, of course you know i have to get a Twin exhaust. So, went shopping for exhaust, and fell in love with Leo Vince.
However, i have to choose the correct exhaust, otherwise it'll look and sound dumb. So, I ordered the exhaust from Leo Vince that was made for the Ducati Monster 620. I figured the engine configuration is somewhat similar (600++ Vtwin)
Next comes the brakes. I used brembo for my last conversion. Figured i wanted to up ante a bit.
So went and got the Goldline Calipers (similar to those you find on the Ducati 748/monster or Laverda)
and got the radial master cylinder
and a couple of other stuff like clip-ons, undertray, rear hugger, LED tail lamps, new set of turning blinkers, etc etc.....
After a few hard fought months (thank you so much Classicracing for all the effort)
we manage to finish the bike in its testing stage. Hence the matte black scheme, like that of a motogp winter test session. Testing commenced from 30th November 07 till 4th December 07:
Finally, after the testing is complete, we put on some final modification here and there, and finally painted it, this is what we got:
Leo Vince
(with custom made 2-1-2 system)
Brembo
Seen here parked next to a bigger V-Twin, the RSV
I got the bike on Saturday (8th December 07) took it to Bukit Changgang. The next day (9th December 07) joined a convoy to Melaka. The first time I rode a big bike for a long distance after i lost my leg in August 2005.
All i can say is, the bike is wonderful, it's different than what it was before. I'm still trying to get use to the bike. A full review will be coming shortly.
I wanted to thank Classicracing for making my vision a reality and not forgetting Ah Boy/xdewax/T.X for helping a lot with this project.
Finally, can you turn an ordinary bike into something special? I think you can
